Features of down milling and up milling

1. Climbing: The rotation direction of the milling cutter is the same as the feed direction of the workpiece.


Range of down milling: When there is no hard skin on the surface of the workpiece and there is no gap in the feed mechanism of the machine tool, down milling should be used.


Advantages: The quality of the surface of the parts is good, and the wear of the cutter teeth is small.


Suitable materials: aluminum-magnesium alloy, titanium alloy heat-resistant alloy.


2. Inverse milling: The rotation direction of the milling cutter is opposite to the feed direction of the workpiece.


The range of up-milling: when the surface of the workpiece has hard skin and the feed mechanism of the machine tool has gaps, up-milling is mostly used.


Advantages: The cutter teeth are cut from the machined surface and will not collapse; the clearance of the machine tool feed mechanism will not cause vibration and crawling.
